SMALL INTESTINAL BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH (SIBO)

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is a cause of a lot of symptoms related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Unfortunately, SIBO is not recognized as a medical condition; many go undiagnosed and untreated. One can experience gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain, food allergies, or other symptoms of IBS. Due to antibiotic use, environmental toxins, and infections, we have seen a dramatic rise in SIBO and IBS-related cases. SIBO can be a precursor to Autoimmune diseases, joint pain, brain fog, nutritional deficiencies, and many other conditions. To effectively treat SIBO requires a very sophisticated Functional Medicine Approach. We have studied these conditions and have extensive experience treating them. We integrate information from the Institute for Functional Medicine, The Gut Institute, and other protocols and sources. We have had to go beyond standard protocols to get our patients better! Some of our services include but are not limited to:

  • Intestinal Permeability with antibody tests from Cyrex and other labs

  • Hydrogen, methane, and Hydrogen Sulfide testing

  • Blood biomarkers for SIBO

  • Small Intestinal Fungal Overgrowth (SIFO)

  • Food allergy panels and gluten antibody testing

  • Auto-antibody panels

  • Stool testing from Genova and other labs

  • Organic Acids testing

  • Nutritional Evaluation

  • Herbal and homeopathic treatments

  • Pharmaceutical treatment

Treatment may include digestive enzymes, betaine, cultured foods, special diets like FODMAPS, vagal nerve supports, elimination diets, specialty pre-biotics, specialized probiotics, herbal anti-bacterial and anti-fungal regimens, and herbal and pharmaceutical prokinetics, as well as prescription antibiotics and/or antifungal treatment.

We may also use Frequency Specific Microcurrent to heal the GI tract.

Diagnosis and treatment are tailored to the individual. Dealing with SIBO can be very challenging for the individual and all those on your care team. Emotional and family support is essential. We would love to support you on your SIBO journey. Please contact our office for more information. For more info on SIBO and treatment options, please see the video below:
