The body is constantly trying to achieve balance or homeostatsis. This is achieved through a very complex biochemical process through various biofeedback systems involving multiple organ systems. The body is constantly try to achieve a ph balance of 7.35-7.45. Unfortunately there are many factors that lead to a situation where the body can become predominantly acidic (Saliva ph < 6.3, Urine ph<6.7). Some of these factors may include: dehydration, mineral imbalance, excess caffeine intake, excess protein intake, lack of green veggies, constipation, various infections, WIFI stress, structural stress, and chronic pain. We know that most chronic disease occurs in an acidic state. THEREFORE, THE OVERALL GOAL IS TO GET THE BODY INTO MORE OF AN ALKALINE STATE. Although everyone is different, my overall suggestion is to try to consume more green veggies and less sugars, carbs, and meats. A list of alkaline/acid foods is contained in the attached. For those of you who want to track your acidity level, I suggest purchasing some Ph paper strips and testing your salvia as well as your urine pH.  This will give us an idea of how acidotic/alkaline you are. Please see attached for this excel spreadsheet. NOTE: We find that drinking alkaline water is only MINIMALLY effective in the long run. If you do consume alkaline water, it is best to drink it BETWEEN meals to avoid diluting the stomach acid.
